Living and Dyeing

Hometown: Bellvue, CO
Visual Arts Category: Fiber

My process is intuitively driven, creating textiles with several slow-cloth techniques to sculpt natural fibers into one of a kind clothing. Many different natural textiles meld within each garment, which is then simmered with leaves into cloth for a trans-formative process. I use the alchemy of plants such as indigo, eucalyptus, various roots, and minerals to naturally dye the vintage silk, linen, cotton, and/or cashmere. I also travel to far off exotic places as part of my creative process, collecting and finding inspirational objects to put in future designs. Embellishments on my garments include hand embroidery, antler horn buttons, beading, boro, hand spinning, and traditional Indian block printing. I often take my work on desert or woodland outings to do my handwork while meditating in nature. The language of cloth unfolds into even deeper layers, that make for a nostalgic feel, even evoking a story, and reflecting nature within these soul-filled, designs.
