I create hand built and wheel thrown functional ceramic ware. Porcelain is used for wheel thrown pieces and stoneware for hand built pieces. Some forms are altered after thrown, creating unique interactive shapes. All of the glazes used, I personally formulate and fire to cone 10 which is 2350 degrees F. Some glazes and clay include materials I personally source locally from Utah. I seek to incorporate materials I use in multiple ways. I create hand formed and fitted copper lids that give each piece its own unique feeling. I also use copper carbonate as a colorant in my glaze. The furniture I made for my booth is wood and multiple of my glazes incorporate wood ash as a material. In these ways I can connect the seen and unseen. I incorporate copper lids not only for function but as a contrast in materials. The copper ages with the piece and continues to interact with the environment it is in while the clay surface remains the same.
