2023 WINNING DESIGN
BY Libby Peterkort
Libby is a multidisciplinary artist hailing from the great Midwest. She mostly creates textile work and custom paintings, but also dabbles in illustration, graphic design, interior design and the occasional sculptural project. Her favorite thing about making art is that it reminds her to accept imperfections and nourish the unexpected. Libby also has a small business, Wear the Wild, where she makes naturally dyed, hand-printed bandanas and other textile accessories. She currently lives in Salt Lake City, Utah.
I wanted this design to be an ode to Park City in the summertime and have a playful, artistic tone to it. The rendering of the different flowers are all species that remind me of summer in Park City (Mule’s Ear, Dyer’s Woad and Indian Paintbrush). I chose the color blocking because I like the unexpected pop it gives to the design; I also kept in mind how great this would look if it’s screen printed! The font is unique and creative, yet still easy to read. In the tee mockup I showed two different versions of how it could be printed (on the front OR the back of the shirt). I would recommend red ink on a cream colored tee for this design.

2nd PLACE DESIGN
BY Sadie AbuHaidar
I am a local young artist that grew up in Park City skiing, hiking, and horseback riding throughout my childhood. I am now a college student majoring in Fine Arts at Connecticut College, but still pull much of my inspiration from the American West, especially cowboy and cowgirl culture. I wanted to incorporate those themes into this T-shirt design, as well as some of the environmental aspects found around Utah. This included a “Wanted Sign” modeled through the old American West, as well as Indian paintbrush flowers on the bottom, which are a native wild flower that can be found blooming throughout Utah in the spring.
I have also completed many pieces representing my love of the Wild West throughout the recent years, such as a pairing of paintings depicting Upper Calf Creek in Boulder, Utah (one realistic and one bright, ultra saturated colors). In addition, many of the stickers and prints I sell at the Park Silly Sunday Market under the name “Sagebrush Creative” (or my instagram @sma_draws) include more characterized characters from the West, like cows and horses, as well as strong women fighting for their place in the Western world. Lastly, I have made a collection of ceramic plates with the same kind of illustrations found on my sold products, but created from underglazes rather than ink.
