This work is a retro abstraction of house plants, and with the addition of the background shapes to bring a bit more whimsy, allowing us to not take the paintings too seriously. The paintings are intended to evoke a sense of creative space with an emotional response resulting from the boldness of color. These remind me of the plant paintings my uncle did in the 1960s, with a modern twist. It is oil on canvas, applied with a heavy, textural palette knife technique. A focus on bold color; bright reds, turquoises, greens, and browns catches the eye and appeals to the viewer's sense of adventure in color. Definitely not for the timid. I've moved from landscape painting to these whimsical houseplants in order to allow my creative aesthetic to flow more freely and create something simple yet incredibly beautiful; something we can all connect and relate to.
